BF3 – Updates

DICE has honed the concept for the true sequel for years, but it wasn’t until the company developed the powerful new Frostbite 2 engine that it felt all the pieces were in place to create a proper follow-up. Armed with powerful upgrades like deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility, executive producer Patrick Bach dubs Frostbite 2 “the best piece of technology on the market when it comes to building games.”

Battlefield 3 leaps ahead of its time with the power of Frostbite™ 2, the next instalment of DICE’s cutting-edge game engine. This state-of-the-art technology is the foundation on which Battlefield 3 is built, delivering enhanced visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and incredibly lifelike character animations. As bullets whiz by, walls crumble, and explosions throw you to the ground, the battlefield feels more alive and interactive than ever before. In Battlefield 3, players step into the role of the elite U.S. Marines where they will experience heart-pounding missions across diverse locations including Paris, Tehran and New York. –

Frostbite 2 – Battlefield 3 introduces Frostbite 2, the incredible technology that takes animation, destruction, lighting, scale and audio to new heights. Built upon this powerful game engine, Battlefield 3 immerses players physically and emotionally to the world around them like never before.

Feel the Battle — Feel the impact of bullets and explosions, drag your fallen comrades into safety, and mount your weapon on almost any part of the terrain. Battlefield 3’s cutting edge animation, spectacular visuals and real as hell battle gameplay attack your senses and make you feel the visceral warrior’s experience like no other FPS.

Unparalleled Vehicle Warfare — The best online vehicle warfare experience gets even better with a fitting sonic boom as fighter jets headline an impressive lineup of land, air and sea vehicles. Other returning fan favourite features include 64 players for PC and prone.

Urban Combat — Take the fight to iconic and unexpected places in the USA, Middle East, and Europe including claustrophobic streets, metropolitan downtowns, and open, vehicle-friendly landscapes as you fight your way through the war of tomorrow. –BattleField website

“A clue of my source”

(Note: This describes how the destruction improved since bad company 2)

(This is what BF3 looks like so far)Note; it is note MoH but the hud however looks like the MoH hud F.Y.I.

Battlefield 3 will support dedicated servers according to Game Informer’s cover story on the recent DICE title. Four classes will still be available but the four person mechanic squad from Bad Company 2 will be expanded. There’s still no details on how they will do this but the fact that the expansion will take place is definitely cause for excitement. According to executive producer Patrick Bach, “Squads are really easy to set up, but how can you take that further? We have some really cool things that we’ll show later when it comes to dictating how you play with friends.” Quite tantalizing but there’re no further details. He definitely knows how to whet gamers appetites.

A little bit of sad news: since Battlefield 3 will feature a new engine, Frostbite 2.0, mod tools won’t have the same mod functionality as previous Battlefield titles. “We will not deliver mod tools in the way that we delivered them for Battlefield 2,” says Bach. “Creating mod tools today — dumbing them down — takes a lot of energy and what we are discussing more every day is, ‘Where do we put our focus?’ Right now our focus is to create the best possible multiplayer, single-player, and co-op game–the core game of Battlefield 3. We’re still discussing how we can handle modifications of any kind.”

Bach goes on to assure PC players that although the Battlefield title supports Xbox 360 and PS3, the game was developed for the PC. “We won’t make it for console and port it to PC — that’s not how we do things,” Bach says. “We’re focusing on the PC first, and then we fiddle with it to fit it into consoles.” Good going!

Regardless Battlefield 3 is going to roll heads, and blow minds all into one big mushroom cloud!

This right here is an example of Destruction 3.0 at work!

There will be plenty more to update!

    Game looks great.

I’m glad it’s not out for a while though to give me time to finish up on all my other games as I can’t see myself playing but BF3 when it comes out 🙂

Why all the pandering to the PC crowd though? Surely consoles are on even footing now?
